Steffen Markus Schlandt

Organist – Black Church in Brașov

Steffen Schlandt was born in 1975 in Brașov. He received the basis of his musical education from his father, Eckart Schlandt, with whom he started the study of piano and organ. He attended the organ section of the Gheorghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca, under the guidance of Ursula Philippi. Subsequently, he studied church music with Christoph Bossert at the Faculty of Music in Trossingen (Germany), as well as choir and orchestra conducting in Würzburg.

As an organist, Steffen Schlandt performed in several European countries. He was a laureate of the DAAD (the German Institute for External Affairs) for outstanding results. At the 2001 international organ contest in Schramberg, he won the 2nd prize. Between 2001 and 2004, he was the répétiteur of the Bach Society in Würzburg. In 1999, he initiated the festival of sacred music, “Diletto Musicale”, in Prejmer, which has been taking place each August ever since.

In September 2004, he started conducting the Bach Choir and received the job of organist at the Black Church in Brașov. He is an associate professor for orchestra at the Faculty of Music of Transylvania University in Brașov. In 2011, he defended his doctoral thesis with the title “Organ Music in Brașov and the Bârsa Region.” In his post-doctoral work, “The Library of the Black Church,” he studied the old manuscripts at the library of the German High School in Brașov. Since 1999, he has been involved in several projects for organ restorations in Romania. Steffen is participating for the third time in the “MUSICA KRONSTADT” Academy.
